Frequently asked questions

Which devices is ReControl available on?

ReControl is available on iOS and Android. The answers below cover both platforms β€” follow the steps that match your device.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Your subscription is billed by the store you subscribed through, so cancellation happens there and not inside ReControl. In both cases you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for, and deleting the app alone does not cancel a subscription.

On iOS

Open the Settings app, tap your name at the top, tap Subscriptions, select ReControl and tap Cancel Subscription.

On Android

Open the Google Play Store, tap your profile picture, then Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Select ReControl and tap Cancel subscription.

I paid but ReControl still asks me to subscribe. What do I do?

Open the subscription screen and tap Restore at the bottom β€” this re-syncs your subscription. If it still fails, email us with the date of purchase and we will unlock your account manually.

On iOS

Check that the Apple account signed in on the device is the one that made the purchase.

On Android

Check that the Google account signed in to the Play Store is the one that made the purchase.

How do I restore my purchase on a new device?

Sign in to ReControl with the same account, open the subscription screen and tap Restore.

On iOS

Your subscription is tied to your Apple account, so it follows you to any device signed in with the same Apple ID.

On Android

Your subscription is tied to your Google account, so it follows you to any device signed in with the same Google account.

Which permission does ReControl need, and why?

To block the apps you choose, ReControl needs a system permission β€” that is the only way an app is allowed to limit another app. On both platforms everything stays on your device: we never see which apps you use, and we cannot read their content.

On iOS

ReControl uses Apple's official Screen Time (Family Controls) framework. You grant it once during setup and can review it at any time in Settings, under Screen Time.

On Android

ReControl uses the Usage access permission to detect which app is in the foreground and show the blocking screen at the right moment. You can review it in Settings, under Apps, Special app access, Usage access.

The blocking does not work as expected

Start by checking that the apps you want to block are still selected in ReControl, then restart your device β€” that resolves most blocking issues. If it still fails, email us with your device model and OS version.

On iOS

Check that the Screen Time permission is still granted, in Settings under Screen Time.

On Android

Check that Usage access is still granted, and exclude ReControl from battery optimisation (Settings, Apps, ReControl, Battery, Unrestricted) so the system does not stop it in the background.

How do I delete my account and my data?

You can delete your account directly in the app, from Settings, which permanently erases your data from our servers. You can also email us and we will process the deletion for you. Note that deleting your account does not cancel your subscription β€” cancel it from your store as described above. For more details about account and data deletion, see our dedicated page.

Can I get a refund?

Purchases are processed by the store you subscribed through, so refunds are handled by them and not directly by us. If you think you were charged in error, contact us as well and we will help.

On iOS

Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple account and select the ReControl purchase to request a refund.

On Android

Open play.google.com/store/account/orderhistory, find the ReControl purchase and choose Request a refund.

Still need help?

If your question is not answered above, write to us β€” a real person will get back to you. Tell us what happened, which device you use and, if possible, the email address linked to your ReControl account: it helps us answer you faster.
